The 5speed help section is designed to help with any technical problems you might
be encountering on the site, and to clarify its features and functionality.
1. Site Overview
1.1 Purpose
The main purpose of this site is to facilitate car trading between individuals
and dealers and individuals. Private and trade persons can advertise
their cars on 5speed individually or in bulk, and users browse
or search these cars. Moreover, 5speed runs a car search on
many third party networks, manufacturer websites, dealer networks
and other popular car search sites, and returns aggregated results
from these sites as well as its own. All third party results
are clearly marked as such, and this functionality is akin to
a specialised search engine.
1.2 Disclaimer
5speed is a facilitator. All transactions are to be handled solely by the buyer
and seller. We supply the information, but no money is exchanged between the buyer
and 5speed. 5speed may charge a nominal listing fee for persons advertising
their car on this site.
2. Privacy
2.1 Your Privacy is Guaranteed
5speed does not sell or give out any personal information about you that you
supply to us to any third parties. Please see our Privacy Policy
for more information.
3. System Requirements
3.1 Browser
Do I need any additional software or plugins to use the site?
If you can read this then you have everything you need to use it. There are no third
party software or plugins required.
Is the site compatible with my browser?
5speed was developed to current web standards. If your browser is standards compliant, then
everything should display properly. Compliant browsers include all the latest versions of
Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla, Firefox, Safari and others.
3.2 Cookies
Do you use cookies?
5speed uses cookies for keeping track of whether a user is logged in or not. A cookie is a
small text file stored on your machine with a limited amount of information stored in it. In this
case, the cookie stores a unique ID. When you log out, the cookie is deleted. If you have cookies
disabled you will not be able to log into the site, preventing you from using certain features
of the site, including selling a car.
Are cookies safe?
Yes, enabling cookies (they are enabled by default on most browsers) is safe and you do not risk
exposure to viruses through cookies. No code can be executed through a cookie, they merely store
a limited amount of information. Furthermore that information is only available to the site that
placed the cookie and no other site. In other words, only 5speed can read your unique ID from
its cookie, thus that information is safe.
3.3 JavaScript
Does 5speed use JavaScript?
Yes, we use JavaScript to perform certain operations on the fly, including form checks and graphical
changes to facilitate the user browsing experience.
What if I have JavaScript disabled?
In that case you will only be able to use parts of the 5speed site;
certain features will not be available to you, including the car search.
4. Troubleshooting
4.1 Technical Problems
MySQL Errors
MySQL is the underlying database technology used by 5speed. There are two possible causes for
the unlikely event of receiving MySQL errors. The first is a technical problem on the server side
and second is the entering of invalid characters into a form. Although all care has been taken to
deal with such events, it is impossible to rule out someone stumbling over an unforeseen case.
Speed Issues
If you find that the site reacts sluggishly or is otherwise unnaturally slow, please do not hesitate
to contact us. We aim to run a fast service at all times. Please note that some
parts of the site come from external sources and as such we have no authority over those.
